Gibson Byrdland, 1974-1975 Unique presence with a thin body and short scale With a 17-inch thin body and a 23 1/2-inch (approximately 597mm) short scale, this model can be described as a thin-bodied, short-scale version of the L-5CES, Gibson's top-of-the-line archtop guitar. It is the only model in the thin-body lineup to feature a solid spruce carved body top, solid maple carved back, and solid maple sides.
Based on the serial number, it is believed to be from 1974-1975. The headstock inlay is a flowerpot design.
From early 1969, Gibson reverted to a Venetian cutaway, and this instrument features that specification. The pickguard is not original but has been replaced with a replica.
The knobs and nut have likely been replaced. The frets appear to have been refretted based on the binding's finish.
With its 17-inch slim body and short 23 1/2-inch (approximately 597mm) scale length, this guitar offers excellent playability and ease of handling. It features original stamped and numbered P-490 pickups.
The potentiometers have been replaced. This instrument is a regular pitch specification.
The bridge pickup produces a clear, punchy sound, while the neck pickup offers a loose, sweet tone due to its short scale length. Product Condition: The neck is almost perfectly straight.
There are some scratches from use. The truss rod has ample adjustment range in both tightening and loosening directions.
The neck has been adjusted to be almost flat. The string height at the 12th fret is approximately 1.6mm for the 1st string and 2.1mm for the 6th string in a standard setup.
The case is included as it is original, although it has many scratches, damage, and repairs.
