Martin Guitars have always been an object of admiration. Even pre-war models continue to be cherished as supreme vintage pieces, and thanks to recent advancements in technology, numerous models have been reissued.
Among them, the "Authentic Series" boasts exceptional craftsmanship and is extremely popular. Produced in a custom shop where hand-picked craftsmen gather, it boasts a quality befitting the pinnacle of modern Martin guitars.
This particular instrument is a "D-28 Authentic 1937," a faithful reproduction of the 1937 "D-28," a used item from 2017.
This guitar features a VTS-treated Adirondack spruce top, Madagascar rosewood sides and back, a genuine mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, Waverly open-back tuners, diamond fingerboard inlays, a painted pickguard, herringbone trim, ivoroid binding, a zigzag backstrip, a steel T-bar truss rod, hide glue construction, and a 1937-style forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing top.
The finish is a low-gloss vintage gloss that gives it a vintage feel. Every detail, from the thickness of the headstock and backstrip to the fingerboard thickness, side panel crack reinforcement, and the shape of the fingerboard end and bridge, has been faithfully reproduced.
The serial stamp is also designed to look exactly like the original, making this a highly collectible remake guitar. The look is exceptionally well-executed, but above all, the sound is in a league of its own compared to existing guitars.
It has the explosive resonance characteristic of Adirondack spruce, with a large, vibrating tone. The rich, full sound with a strong fundamental tone and thick mid-low frequencies is characteristic of Adirondack spruce.
Thanks to the VTS treatment, it also boasts excellent touch response and a wide sound range, as if it had been played for many years. The hard yet lustrous resonance and clear, transparent tone, characteristic of Madagascar rosewood, are different from current models.
With a fast attack and dense tone, this guitar offers an exceptional sound experience. There is a crack on the shoulder of the body on the 6th string side, but it has been carefully glued and patched from the back.
There is some paint peeling on the front, but it does not affect playability. There is some binding peeling, which is common in Martin ivoroid guitars these days, on two curves and the shoulder of the back, and on the curve and shoulder of the top on the 1st string side, but all have been carefully repaired.
Aside from these points, the guitar shows no significant signs of use and remains in beautiful condition. The neck is in perfect condition, and the playability is excellent, offering a surprisingly smooth playing experience.
This is a used Martin guitar in superb condition, a high-quality instrument from the Authentic series, which recreates the best of the Golden Era with modern technology. It's a Custom Shop-made guitar packed with meticulous attention to detail.
