Martin O-18K Used Acoustic Guitar 1931

The Martin "K (Koa)" series was manufactured in America from 1917 to 1935 as Martin's first Hawaiian model, during the Hawaiian music boom. It was released in a wide range of sizes from 5 to 000, and depending on the era, there were standard set models and Hawaiian set models similar to lap steel guitars.

Like other Martin models, the "K" series had a lineup by style, and this instrument is a Style 18, specifically a "0" size "0-18K". This is a 1931 vintage piece, clad in Hawaiian koa wood.

It features an all-Hawaiian koa wood body, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard & belly bridge, slotted headstock, original plate tuners, original painted tortoiseshell pickguard, abalone fingerboard dots, scalloped X-bracing, and an ebony rod. This is a ready-to-play instrument, having undergone a thorough neck reset and setup by Seagull String Instrument Workshop (M.

Shiozaki), renowned in Japan for its expertise in Martin guitars. The frets are the original bar frets and maintain a wonderfully smooth playability.

It boasts the dry, tight tone characteristic of koa wood. Beyond just the string resonance, it possesses a unique harmonic richness that captivates koa wood enthusiasts.

The response to fingerpicking is remarkably lively for an instrument over 90 years old, making it a stress-free playing experience. While there is some repair to the center seam from below the top bridge to the end, it's a gap in the joint and not a crack.

Otherwise, there are no cracks in the body wood, the neck is straight, and the condition is excellent. The finish is also original.

This 0-18K model is highly sought after and rarely comes up for sale. A highly satisfying instrument.
