Martin D-41 1972 Used Acoustic Guitar 1972

The "D-41" was designed by Martin's public relations/researcher, Mylkworth, and production began in 1969. It was created to meet the demand for a D-28 with added embellishments, rather than the rare and expensive D-45, and it possesses a unique character as an intermediate model between the D-28 and D-45.

This particular instrument is a used 1972 model. Features include a German spruce top, Indian rosewood sides and back, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, original USA Grover gold tuners, abalone inlay rosette and trim, D-41 style hexagon fingerboard inlays, vertical headstock logo, square truss rod, and non-scalloped X-bracing.

The pickguard has been replaced with a tortoiseshell one. From its introduction until 1974, German spruce was used as the top wood, setting it apart from the Sitka spruce-top models that followed.

The 40s series was extremely popular during the folk boom, becoming a symbol of aspiration, but its high price as an imported instrument meant that many were unable to acquire one. With its magnificent appearance and elegant sound, many people still dream of owning a Martin someday.

The thick, sweet attack with a lingering quality is a sensation that can only be experienced with a German spruce top, setting it apart from later Sitka spruce models. The non-scalloped X-bracing and SQ rod give it a strong core and full tone, exhibiting a unique character, especially in the richness of the low frequencies, that sets it apart from modern guitars.

A strap pin has been installed on the side of the neck heel, and there is a repaired crack from the bottom of the pickguard to below the pickguard, with internal reinforcement. The saddle has been adjusted to be as low as possible, but the string height is slightly high.

Weather checking is evenly distributed across the top, giving it a nice vintage feel. There are other scratches and dents, but considering its age, it is in good condition and appears to have been well cared for.

Considering that German-topped 45s are already quite difficult to acquire due to their high price, the 41 could be a viable alternative. Comes with the original Martin blue case.
