This time, we have a 1973 "4000" model, characterized by its single pickup and dot inlays. It weighs 4.0kg.
The serial number "ML" indicates it was manufactured in December 1973. The pot date is also from 1973, and the cavity is marked "MIKE 4000".
While the "Rickenbacker 4001," introduced in 1961, is the brand's most widely produced and best-known bass, many fans still consider this single-pickup "4000" to be the "original." It was produced for a very short period and in limited quantities. Due to its rarity and unique sound resulting from its specifications, the "4000" is extremely rare and highly valued among collectors.
1973 was a transitional year, with the traditional neck-through-body construction being abandoned and the set-neck construction adopted. Furthermore, the "Grover Imperial" tuners were changed to a wave shape, the thumb rest was eliminated, and the bridge was changed to a new specification that is not a "gaptooth" type, but the mute mechanism is still included.
Plexiglass truss rod cover with logo, but no model name marking Dual truss rod specification 20 frets No body binding Horseshoe pickup, or 4-pole pickup with cover and chrome surround Two black heptagon control knobs Mono input jack plate The internal components, including the pickups, appear to be fully original.
The playing condition is good, and although there are signs of age typical of a vintage instrument, the sound is unique, making it a must-see for anyone who has been searching for one. In particular, the 4000 itself rarely appears on the used market, and this black one is truly one of a kind!
