Navajo Diné Tufa Cast Sterling Yei Pin
The figurative design of this Navajo (Diné) pin features a tall Yei. They are spiritual beings that connect the people to the Great Spirit. A small piece of bright blue turquoise accents the base of the piece, possibly as a symbol of fertility. The pin was formed of sterling & accented with stamped details. It was made using a tufa cast, also called sandcasting, where the jeweler carves a mold into soft tufa & pours molten silver into the shape. The pin is hallmarked sterling & signed with an E for the maker's mark. It measures 2.25" H x .75" W. Weighs 7.74g. The pinback works very well. This traditional Navajo piece is sure to draw compliments & has an elegant form. From a Phoenix estate.
