Vintage Cochiti Owl Sculpture 

This fun Cochiti owl was sculpted of clay during the first half of the twentieth century by an unknown artist. It was handbuilt of local red clay & is hollow inside which attests to the potter's skill. The artist painted it with traditional black & cream colored paints prepared from vegetal & mineral sources. The body is covered with painted feathers & the face has charming details & hides a secret (!)  This owl is unsigned but has a nominal price penciled on the base with the word "Cochiti". It measures 5” H x 3” W x 2.5” D. These older examples are rarely on the market; the owl is newly available from a Utah estate. This would be a stand out in any collection!
