Navajo Diné Tufa Cast Sterling Spiderwoman Pin

The striking design of this Navajo (Diné) pin features a Spiderwoman cross set within an oval shape. Spiderwoman is known as a deity that plays a central role in the creation story of the Navajo: she wove the world, guided the people & helped them learn how to live. A cross with shaped ends is a symbol of Spiderwoman. This was made using a tufa cast, also called sandcasting, where the jeweler carves a mold into soft tufa & pours molten silver into the shape. A small piece of bright blue turquoise accents the center. This is unsigned. It measures 2.25” L x 1.75” H. Weighs 18.75g. No hallmarks but acid tests as sterling silver. The pinback works smoothly. This handsome piece is sure to draw compliments & would make the perfect gift for any lover of Navajo weaving!

Very Good Condition! There are two small cracks in the stone that are stable & look like dendrites or matrix to the naked eye. You could have this replaced with a new stone of your choice. Priced accordingly.
