Gorgeous sea shell and classic collectible species.  

This one reminds me of a Chinese lantern.   it's incredible that something which appears so delicate can be tough enough to survive and thrive in a marine environment.   i had this one out today too get ready to photograph it and it looked so cool when illuminated by the sun.

as the title says there's no operculum.  i don't know when it was collected but the tag included with it and that goes with it is from a mineral shop in Los Angeles that closed in the 1980s.
