Vintage round footed bowl in a silver tone metal, offered exactly as it was found.

DECORATION: three raised rococo cartouche medallions sit spaced around the body. Each one is a scrolled shell frame with flower and leaf swags, worked in repousse so the design stands proud on the outside and reads as a raised pattern on the inside wall. The rim is plain and smooth, so it is not pierced, reticulated, beaded or gadrooned. The bowl stands on a plain recessed foot ring.

MARKS: the base and the rim were both checked. There is no stamp, hallmark, maker name, lion or other punch, and no country mark anywhere on the piece. There is no STERLING, 925, 800, 900, EPNS, SILVER ON COPPER or QUADRUPLE PLATE mark. NO SILVER CONTENT IS CLAIMED. The piece is unmarked and has not been tested. No maker mark is present, so no manufacturer or origin is claimed. Green verdigris spotting inside the bowl points to a copper based metal under the finish, which is what you would expect on a plated ware, but with no plate mark present no plating claim is made either.

CONDITION: heavy tarnish and dark grey to brown discolouration inside and out, white residue spots, water spotting and light surface scratches over most of the surface. The rim reads slightly out of round in the photos. No splits, tears or punctures are visible at the rim, and no bright base metal is showing through in a worn patch. It has not been polished, so a buyer can clean it to taste or leave the patina.

SIZE: roughly 8 in across and about 3.5 in tall, read off the tape measure shown in the photos, so treat both figures as approximate.
