An incredibly handsome Mr P. herringbone overcoat, handmade in Italy from a luxurious wool and mohair blend and cut with sharp, modern proportions. The black and white herringbone weave blends together to create an overall sophisticated grey appearance — one of the most timeless and versatile looks in men's outerwear.
This is a modern interpretation of the powerful classic herringbone coat. Rather than feeling traditional or conservative, Mr P. has given it a much sharper attitude through slim peak lapels, a streamlined silhouette and slim fit. The result is a coat that references classic menswear but feels completely contemporary.
The fabric is particularly good: a blend of 75% wool, 18% mohair and 7% polyamide. The wool provides warmth and substance, while the mohair gives the cloth additional texture, resilience and that subtle crispness that works so beautifully with a herringbone weave. Up close, the individual black and white fibres create wonderful depth; from a distance, they merge into an elegant textured grey.
Construction is deliberately lightweight and modern. The body is unlined, allowing the coat to drape more naturally and keeping unnecessary bulk to a minimum, while the sleeves are lined so that it slips easily over shirts, knitwear and tailoring. It is a great balance between traditional overcoat construction and the relaxed way modern men actually want to dress.
I'm a big fan of Mr P. because the label has always approached classic menswear from a contemporary perspective. The pieces are understated but often have an unusual proportion, fabric or detail that separates them from more conventional tailoring. This coat is a perfect example — fundamentally timeless, but the peak lapels and lean silhouette give it considerably more attitude.
For me, every man needs a black and white herringbone coat. It is one of those rare pieces that genuinely works with almost everything. Wear it over a black turtleneck with tailored trousers and leather boots for a sharp monochromatic look, over a suit for work or an evening event, or simply throw it over a white T-shirt, sweatshirt or knit with denim and sneakers.
The longer 40-inch length also gives the coat real presence. Combined with the slim peak lapels and herringbone cloth, it creates a strong, elongated silhouette without becoming overly formal.
This particular coat comes from my personal collection and has only been worn a handful of times. It remains in excellent, near-new condition and has been very well cared for.
A fantastic piece of modern Italian-made outerwear — classic herringbone, beautiful wool-mohair cloth and sharp contemporary tailoring. This is one of those coats that immediately makes almost anything underneath it look better.
