Rosemeade Pottery in Wahpeton ND made numerous hand-painted pottery shapes from 1940 to 1961.  Their many animal-shaped salt and peppers were very popular items in the area's souvenir shops.  Often depicting animals native to the area, they were very realistically shaped, detailed, and colored.

This sailboat salt and pepper set in a white glossy glaze with an oval base that looks like waves in a blue glossy glaze are a great example of Rosemeade's hand-painted attention to detail.  They are the same size - about 3-1/2 inches tall, 3-1/2 inches wide, and 1 inch across.  The salt shaker has 3 holes and the original foil label.  The pepper shaker has 2 holes.  Both have what appears to be the original cork stoppers in the bottom.

Examples of this set can be seen on page 150 of the 2000 Collectors Encyclopedia of Rosemeade Pottery - Identification & Values - by Darlene Hurst Dommel.

Thin delicate pieces, this set is over 60 years old and still in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready to add to a collection or display all on their own.
