A mixed collection of bibles/prayer books/church services. The highlight of the set is an OUP 1856 large bible (pica 8vo), illustrated with numerous full page engravings, in very good condition.
1. The Holy Bible: Oxford University Press, 1856. Many engraved plates, the text is incredibly clean as are the plates (with minimal foxing), a tight binding with minimal rubbing to the full black leather. The ffep is a bit worse for wear and a repair has been done to potentially attach this in. Raised bands and gilting to textblock in very good condition as well. Very good.
2. The small Roman Missal, Laverty and Sons, c1955. Mother of pearl binding with decorated gilt textblock edges. In fine condition.
3. The Prayer Book (Christlicher Fuhrer zu Gott), Eberle, Kalin & Cie, c1890 with brass clasp and celluloid binding. With illustrative communion card. There in an inscription and slight staining to the head of the textblock but internally clean. Very good.
4. The Book of Common Prayer, Oxford University Press, India paper with Oxford binding. Good.
5. A Guide to the Holy Eucharist, William Bennett, 842. Vol 2 only, with two owner's inscriptions on front paste down, in near fine condition with excellent full black leather with much gilt tooling and decoration. Near fine.
6. The Book of Common Prayer, Oxford University Press, miniature. The first gathering is a little bit wobbly but otherwise structurally sound with rubbed leather. Good.
7. The Holy Bible, George Eyre and Andrew Spottiswoode, 1836. Heavy wear to exterior leather binding on front board, with front internal joint cracked. Still held together quite firmly. Some dog eared pages and sermon markers inscribed on pages (potentially multigenerational inscriptions). Fair to good.
8. Hymns + Common Prayer two-volume church set, Eyre and Spottiswoode. The case is heavily worn with chipping but the books are in near fine condition (light rubbing to the head of the front leather).
9. Church Services. Lacking title page and disbound, the exterior leather joint is cracked but the brass clasp and edges are in good condition. A binding fragment in its current condition.
