SwanCrystal SCT-001
Wine Red — 2.8" TFT Handheld Console
UNUSED · STILL IN FACTORY BAG

Still in Its Factory Bag

This console has never been taken out of its original poly bag, and the screen protection film applied at the factory is still in place. It has never been used and has never been powered on.

The box has been opened, so the manual, catalog and postcard are all visible in the photos — but the console itself is exactly as it left the factory in 2002.

Why the SwanCrystal?

The SwanCrystal was Bandai's final and most refined WonderSwan. Where the WonderSwan Color used an STN panel that ghosted badly during scrolling, the SwanCrystal moved to a 2.8-inch reflective TFT LCD supplied by Citizen — sharply reducing motion blur and giving a brighter, cleaner image.

It also fixed the platform's most notorious fault. The old rubber power button absorbed skin oils over the years and would eventually stop cutting the power; the SwanCrystal replaced it with a plastic power button. If you want a WonderSwan that still behaves twenty years on, this is the model to own.

Launched July 12, 2002 at ¥7,800, Japan-only, with a short production run at the very end of the platform's life. Wine Red is one of the least commonly seen of its color options.

Plays the Whole Library

Fully backward compatible with the entire WonderSwan and WonderSwan Color catalogue — the Final Fantasy I & II remakes, Front Mission, Rockman & Forte, Gunpey, Guilty Gear Petit, Digimon and the rest of the Japan-only line-up. The screen rotates for horizontal and vertical play, and the hardware is completely region-free.

Perfect For

  • Collectors hunting an unused, bagged, never-powered-on Japanese handheld
  • WonderSwan owners chasing the harder-to-find Wine Red colorway
  • Retro handheld collectors who want the best screen in the family

Condition Notes

  • Console: unused. Still inside its original factory poly bag, with the factory screen protection film in place. Never powered on.
  • Not tested. The unit has deliberately been kept unpowered to preserve its unused state, so no operation test has been carried out. Sold as unused new-old-stock.
  • Box: Opened but in good condition, showing only light storage wear for an item of this age. Please check the photos.
  • Instruction manual, product catalog and registration postcard all present.
  • Battery not included — requires 1 x AA (widely available).
  • Japanese-language system and printed materials. Hardware has no region lock.
  • Please review all photos carefully; they form part of the description.
