This is a beautiful and very tidy nickel silver Swan Mabie Todd Fyne Poynt mechanical pencil, in its original box, working perfectly and supplied with its original vintage leads.  Probably dating from c 1940s.

This pencil appears to have been well looked after and stored for its c 80 years of age.  It has minimal handling wear visible on the body, with a strong and light-catching engine-turned pattern in alternating panels.  The cartouche is vacant and could be engraved with a name if you prefer.  The lead cone has a some dinks which break up the light and the top also has a graze (see photos and video).

The pencil is made of "nickel silver", which is, despite being the lowest value metal of pencil ranges, a relatively scarce Fyne Poynt pencil to find - perhaps because of it being low value, most were worked hard and uncherished.  So, curiously, nickel silver is rarer to find on sale than the gold plated or sterling silver versions.

("Nickel silver" has other names, eg "alpaca" - it is, essentially, a nickel alloy which does not tarnish greatly but has an excellent silvery appearance, giving big visual bang for its buck.  It does not contain any silver.  Take a look at "nickel silver" on Wikipedia for a full definition).

The twist mechanism is smooth and creamy, fitted with lead which propels and repels faultlessly.  The ring top flips down so that you can remove the cap (it pulls off - it is stiff!) - under which are stored 7 more original leads.  The pencil takes 1.18mm lead.

The cap is stamped "Fyne Poynt" in cursive script.  Interestingly, there is no country of manufacture stamped -  this is possibly a war-time pencil, so who knows what was going on with manufacture in the UK / imports from the USA at that time.

The box is cardboard - and is in very good condition, entire and whole.  The box's exterior is a little worn in places, but it has done its job admirably of keeping the pencil safe.  The instructions are original and are vellum-coloured with age, largely entire and completely legible.
