I haven't read these for many years, so I'm not sure how politically incorrect they may be by 21st century standards. Harris lived from 1848 - 1908 and Frost from 1851 - 1928. The prefatory note to the reader says that the text is "the dialect of the cotton plantations of Middle Georgia" and that "each legend comes fresh and direct from the Negroes." Be that as it may, these folktales are part of American folklore.
This was bought new and is in fairly good condition. I take excellent care of my books in my smoke-free environment.
Notes on condition:
dust jacket: clean, no marks, short tear top edge front cover (see third from last photo), price clipped, spine is a bit faded
cover: gray cloth boards with red stamped decoration front board and lettering and decoration on spine - all clean, no marks or dents
interior pages: clean, no marks or tears; former owner's book plate adhered to front free end paper; some spots of age discoloration along top of pages (see last two photos)
