Item Description:
Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic piece of Art Deco history—an Antique Chinese Export Carved Carnelian Dress Clip dating from the 1920s to the 1930s.
This
exquisite piece features a central, hand-carved natural carnelian
gemstone with lovely, warm translucent orange-red tones. The stone is
carved in a delicate floral relief design with characteristic fine line
incisions from the period. It is securely held in an oval, scalloped
prong setting with an open back that beautifully catches the light when
worn.
The
reverse side features the classic, strong spring-loaded hinged dress
clip mechanism (sometimes referred to as a fur clip), designed to clamp
onto necklines, pockets, lapels, or scarves. The hardware operates
smoothly and holds tightly.
The back of the frame is clearly stamped "CHINA" along
with a separate rectangular maker/purity hallmark block. The metal
frame is silver with a lovely vintage gold-wash (vermeil) patina.
