  • Location & History: In St. Augustine stereoview titles from the 1870s–1880s, the "Old Spanish Graveyard" almost always refers to the Tolomato Cemetery (located on Cordova Street), which sat on the site of a former 18th-century Spanish Guale Indian mission village. Burials: It was used as a Catholic cemetery during both the First Spanish Period, the British Period, and the Second Spanish Period, housing notable historical figures such as Father Félix Varela and early Spanish settlers.
  •  Early photographers favored this spot because of its romantic, overgrown Spanish moss, ancient coquina-stone vaults, and historic mortuary chapel.
