Rosemeade Pottery in Wahpeton ND made numerous hand-painted pottery shapes from 1940 to 1961.  Their many animal-shaped salt and peppers were very popular items in the area's souvenir shops.  Often depicting animals native to the area, they were very realistically shaped, detailed, and colored.

This salt and pepper set shaped like prairie roses - like the prairie rose used by Rosemeade on their labels - are finished in a pink glossy glaze with the center done in a yellow glossy glaze and the leaves in a green glossy glaze.  They are a great example of Rosemeade's hand-painted attention to detail.

The shakers are the same size - about 2 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch tall.  The salt shaker has 5 holes and the pepper shaker has 3 holes and what appears to be the original paper on the bottom.

Examples of these shakers can be seen on page 83 of the 2000 Collectors Encyclopedia of Rosemeade Pottery - Identification & Values - by Darlene Hurst Dommel.

Over 60 years old, these are still in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready to add to a collection or display all on their own.
