Rosemeade Pottery in Wahpeton ND made numerous hand-painted pottery shapes from 1940 to 1961.  Their many animal-shaped salt and peppers were very popular items in the area's souvenir shops.  Often depicting animals native to the area, they were very realistically shaped, detailed, and colored.  

This "fighting cocks" salt and pepper set in glossy glazes is a great example of Rosemeade's attention to detail.  The upright rooster salt shaker with 3 holes is about 3-1/4 inches tall, 1-1/4 inches wide at the base, and 4-1/2 inches beak-to-tail.  The crouching rooster pepper shaker with 2 holes is about 3 inches tall, 1-1/8 inches wide, and 4 inches beak-to-tail.

The upright rooster still has the original Rosemeade foil label on his base and both shakers have what is probably an original cork stopper in the bottom.  

Over 60 years old, they are in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready to use, add to a collection, or display all on their own.
