Clair Everett Stewart used the name Sorcha Boru for the whimsical ceramic pieces she designed that were made in San Carlos CA from ca 1940-50s.  Her pieces were usually made with a terra-cotta or buff colored clay and were small and included many figurines and salt and pepper sets.  A well-recognized artist and ceramicist, her works are on display in many art museums across the United States.

These horsehead shakers are a great example of the detail of the designs in her art.  Both are about 2-1/2 inches tall, 1-1/2 inches wide, and 2 inches front-to-back.  Finished in a glossy turquoise glaze, they are on an oval ribbed base that is about 1-3/4 x 1-1/4 inches.  The pepper shaker has 3 holes. The salt shaker has 4 holes and has the hand-incised "SBC (c) " marking on the bottom.  Both have what appear to be the original corks.

For shakers over 60 years old, they are in good vintage condition and ready to add to a collection or display all on their own.
