Ceramic Arts Studio (Madison WI 1940-55) is well-known for its beautiful Betty Harrington designs and its figurines and salt and pepper sets. This bunny figurine - Peter Rabbit - was produced ca. 1942-1946. An example can be seen on page 59 of the 2003 Schiffer reference book "Ceramic Arts Studio - The Legacy of Betty Harrington" by Donald-Brian Johnson, Timothy J. Holthaus, and James E. Petzold.
While later Ceramic Arts Studio pieces usually had hand-decorated detail on most of the designs by Betty Harrington, their early pieces produced for a shorter time were often a single color glossy glaze like this pink one.
Like most CAS pieces, Peter Rabbit is small - about 3-1/2 inches tall, 1-1/4 inches wide, and 1-1/2 inches front-to-back. The detail typical of CAS pieces is evident in his face, body, and his jacket with buttons in the back.
The bottom is unmarked but that is not unusual for these early pieces that may have been sold with a paper label rather than an ink stamp.
He is in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready to add to a collection or display all on his own.
Ships USPS.
