Zanesville Pottery (or Zanesville Stoneware) in Zanesville Ohio began producing utilitarian stoneware and kitchenware in 1889.  They later began producing art pottery pieces with a heavy ceramic body made in many shapes, sizes, and glazes until they closed in 1957.

This ribbed fan vase #851 with 2 small handles at the bottom is about 7-1/2 inches tall, 8 inches wide at the top rim, and 3 inches front-to-back at the scalloped top rim.  Its weight - almost 3 pounds - and its round base that is about 4-3/4 inches in diameter - makes this vase very sturdy.

Finished in a glossy black drip glaze over an amber yellow glaze on the exterior and black glaze on the interior, it is in very good antique condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready to use or display.

The bottom has the impressed shape number "851" and finish that is typical of Zanesville pieces.
