Robert Rivera is a self-taught New Mexico artist that popularized the transformation of natural dried gourds into painted vessels & mixed media sculptures with a southwestern flair. He draws artistic inspiration from the ancient & contemporary indigenous cultures of New Mexico & the region. He began creating gourd art in the 1970's & is very prolific. This is one of his earlier vessels, based on a traditional pueblo pottery design. The surface is covered in a repeating pattern in three colors. The inside has been blackened to mimic a pit fired piece of pottery. This is signed Robert Rivera, 1980 on the base. It measures approx 3" H x 3.25" W x3.25" D. This is a great example of his early work that would look great in any collection of southwestern art! 

Excellent Condition! This has a lot of visible pencil marks from the drafting portion of the process, as made.
