The back depicts the history of ships named Kearsarge: Mt. Kearsarge N.H., the Civil War-era sloop-of-war (1861-1894), the battleship BB-5 (1898-1920), and the aircraft carrier CVA-33 (1946). 

Deep-etched engraving is legible and detailed throughout.

Chrome-plated brass body with significant pocket wear — chrome thinning and wearing through to brass on edges and high-friction areas, consistent with age and use. Hinge is partially disconnected (see photos). Flint wheel sparks with a fresh flint inserted. No major dents or deep gouges. No box or packaging included.
