WW2 Original technical hatch from the Il-2 KR attack aircraft.
The
Il-2KR (where "KR" stands for "Spotter-Reconnaissance Aircraft") is a
specialized modification of the famous Soviet Il-2 attack aircraft,
developed in 1943.
Since
standard Soviet reconnaissance aircraft (such as the Su-2) were
obsolete by the middle of World War II, and regular attack aircraft
lacked the necessary equipment for long-range communications, the
Ilyushin Design Bureau developed a version for short-range aerial
reconnaissance and artillery fire spotting directly over the
battlefield.
The relic was found during excavations on the battlefield in Kurland Pocket.
Battle for Kurland, 1944.
The relic is in fairly good condition, despite having lain in the ground for over 80 years.
