A vintage Japanese sword guard with a simple and substantial openwork design.
The exposed metal along the cut edges has a reddish tone, suggesting that the tsuba is made of copper or a copper-based alloy. However, the exact material, age, and school are unknown.
The large round plate measures approximately 80 mm in diameter and 4.5 mm in thickness, giving it a solid and heavy appearance. It is unsigned.
The surface shows extensive dark patina, oxidation, discoloration, scratches, and general age-related wear. There are visible tool marks and irregularities around the openwork openings and nakago-ana. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
This listing is for the tsuba only.
