Two US Precancels Albums: Presidential, Defence & War Issues Published 1958)

This is an excellent overall collection of all US states pre-cancels (by the looks of things – I haven’t checked for all the US states being present in the two albums). The album of pre-printed pages was published in 1958 by Gilbert W. Noble. All the stamps are in excellent mint condition and protected by stamp mounts.

I have shown a very small selection of the 187 pages with stamps on. I roughly calculated 2000+ stamps based on 11 stamps per page (187 x 11 = 2,057), all meticulously mounted.

There has a great deal of care put into assembling, displaying and storing this collection, apart from the two folders). These two pre-printed albums are in two plastic albums which are unsuitable for storing these types of pre-printed pages as the pages are difficult to turn, the page holes wear and deteriorate quickly (even with the whole reinforcements on the pages).

I haven’t been able to find any of Gilbert Noble’s precancel albums for sale, populated or unpopulated, although there have been sales previously but these details and prices are behind firewalls you have to subscribe/pay for. This makes this two album collection difficult to price but I have prescribed a price, whether it is realistic will be soon be indicted by the response to the listing.

Both albums have the same dimensions:

·      Folder #1 Weight - 1.50 kgs with folder. Pre-printed pages - 768 grammes

      Pages = 2 double sided text pages; 84 sided stamp pages (approx. 900 stamps)

 

·      Folder #2 Weight - 1.41 kgs with folder. Pre-printed album pages - 916 grammes
Pages = No double sided text pages; 103 sided stamp pages (approx. 1100 stamps)

 

·      Estimate the overall completion of the two albums to be 85% - 90%.

·      Note that the in folder #2, the single page “Playing Card – 1940 Issue” page has no stamps at all. Neither do the 5 pages of the following “Bureau Print Minor Varieties”.

 
The weight is the folder plus the pre-printed pages of the catalogue. The pages by themselves weigh approximately half of the folder + pages. I wouldn’t bother with the folders as they are about to fall apart. I would just package the album pages – in a sealed bag, with a double layer of thick cardboard surrounding the pages to stiffen and protect the pages/stamps as a minimum. The choice is yours but they will be thoroughly protectively packed whichever option you choose – I would assume that with packaging of the combined two folders will be between 2kg to 10kg’s.
