A scarce signed lettered limited slipcased 1st edition of this 2009 novel from the highly regarded Welsh author Sarah Waters.  She came to immediate prominence with her acclaimed debut 'Tipping The Velvet ' (1998).   This novel was the third of hers in a row which made it to the Shortlist of the Man Booker Prize - this one had the unenviable task of being up against Hilary Mantel's 'Wolf Hall ', which was the winner in 2009.

'The Little Stranger ' published by Virago, London in 2009, 1st edition, standard modern hardback, [viii] + 501 pages.

Flat hand signed by Sarah Waters at a special limitation page between the half-title and title pages.

This copy is letter Y from this special run of 26 copies lettered from A-Z.  My understanding is that these lettered copies were exclusively prepared as author and/or publisher gift copies.  There was also a 100-run slipcased edition prepared for the Australian market and the UK had a 1000-run slipcased edition.

The book is in fine unread condition.  No dustjacket as issued.  Red and gilt designed slipcase to match the book design, this is in near fine+ condition, as there is a bump to the foot of the spine at the right side (see photo 7).

** A scarce limited edition and this lettered version is one of the rarest signed non-winner Modern Firsts from recent Booker Prize history.

There are currently no other dealers with a copy of this lettered edition I can see listed on Ebay, ABE or any other bookseller sites worldwide.   One can find a couple of copies of the 100-run slipcase versions (a run nearly 4 times as many as this lettered one), which are online from £100+ **

In a dusty post-war summer in rural Warwickshire, a doctor is called to a patient at lonely Hundreds Hall.  Home to the Ayres family for over two centuries, the Georgian house, once grand and handsome, is now in decline, its masonry crumbling, its gardens choked with weeds, its owners - mother, son and daughter - struggling to keep pace.

But are the Ayreses haunted by something more sinister than a dying way of life?  Little does Dr Faraday know how closely, and how terrifyingly, their story is about to become entwined with his.

Multiple items - Please review my other listings to see if there are any other items which are of interest to you.  I will be pleased to provide a suitable invoice for combined postage cost for 2 or more items.  If you have won an item and intend to bid on any other items which end on different days, I would be grateful if you would drop me a message.

Postage – All of my books are triple wrapped for delivery to maximise their safety - firstly in bubble wrap protection, secondly in either a padded envelope or a cardboard box, and finally in thick parcel paper.

For UK mainland - all items above a fairly modest value I will send via either signed for Royal Mail and/or courier options whichever is the best, this being largely dependent on the weight of the object.

I am more than happy to post overseas on the basis that all items will be posted by Airmail with a signature required on delivery.  If you are overseas, please feel free to enquire about postage charges ahead of registering a bid if you are unsure of the cost I may have outlined above, where costs may be prohibitive depending upon where you are in the world and the weight of the item, many thanks.

Feedback – I will be delighted to provide feedback for a winning bidder once they have done so first to ensure that the item has arrived safely.  In the event a winning bidder has any queries around a product following receipt, I would be pleased to deal with any queries via my business mail address or the Ebay message function in an effort to resolve matters ahead of any mutual feedback being provided, thanks.

Many thanks for looking at my items and good luck with any bids you make.

I will be regularly listing items for sale, please save me as one of your favourite sellers for the future, thanks.
