A fine antique Bovey Tracey Pottery Co. three-piece covered soap dish, decorated in the “Java” pattern with black / grey floral transfer decoration over a warm cream-glazed earthenware body.
The piece is of classic late Victorian / Edwardian washstand form, comprising the outer reservoir dish, removable pierced drainer insert, and domed handled cover. The lid is decorated with floral sprays and a repeated border, while the body and insert carry matching botanical transfer ornament. The underside bears the printed circular “JAVA” pattern mark above “B.T.P. Co.”, identifying it as a Bovey Tracey Pottery Co. piece.
Complete antique soap dishes of this type are increasingly difficult to find, particularly with the original lid and drainer still present. This is a particularly attractive example, combining a named Devon pottery attribution, decorative monochrome transfer pattern, and practical three-part washstand construction.

Excellent antique condition for type.
Complete with original outer dish, pierced drainer insert and handled cover. No chips, cracks or repairs detected.
There is overall age-related crazing to the glaze, with minor surface wear, light staining/speckling and some rubbing to the transfer decoration, particularly around exposed edges and the lid border. There are also some small kiln/manufacturing imperfections and expected underside wear, all commensurate with age and use.
