An original antique postcard depicting Hossain Sagar Lake Canal, Secunderabad, in the former Hyderabad State (Deccan), India.

The postcard offers an attractive panoramic view of the Hossain Sagar Lake Canal, showing the carefully engineered waterways, surrounding gardens and industrial buildings that formed part of Secunderabad's expanding infrastructure during the British Raj. Small figures, carts and everyday activity along the canal provide an excellent record of life in the Hyderabad Deccan in the early twentieth century. The reverse is unused and notes that the postcard was printed in Saxony, Germany, a leading centre for fine postcard production.

Historical Background

Hussain (Hossain) Sagar, constructed in 1563 during the Qutb Shahi dynasty, became one of Hyderabad's most important reservoirs and supplied water to both Hyderabad and the neighbouring British cantonment of Secunderabad. By the early 1900s its canals and surrounding works were central to the city's development, making postcards such as this valuable visual records of the region's colonial-era landscape.
