Up for sale is our much-loved Mercedes 609D campervan, registered P912 PBX.

We bought this van around 10 years ago and it was an absolute dream, taking us on extensive trips around Europe. Sadly, due to a house move and lack of space, it has been parked on our driveway for approximately 7 years and must now be sold.

This is a genuine opportunity to acquire a rare Mercedes 609D camper based on the highly regarded OM364 diesel engine (the famed ‘Million Miles’ engine) and heavy-duty commercial chassis.

Please read the description carefully. This vehicle is being sold strictly as a NON-RUNNER / SPARES OR REPAIR / RESTORATION PROJECT.

Vehicle Details

History

This vehicle started life as a minibus before being converted into a campervan by a previous owner.

The family who carried out the conversion documented the entire build process in a detailed conversion book.

The van was later used as a rental camper and was listed with Quirky Campers before our ownership.

We have owned it for around 10 years and travelled extensively throughout Europe in it.

Prior to being laid up, the van had a long MOT history and passed its last MOT in September 2018 before being taken off the road and placed on SORN.

Current Condition

The vehicle has not been driven around for approximately seven years and was last started up approximately six years ago.

As such, buyers should assume that recommissioning work will be required throughout before any attempt is made to return it to the road.

Known issues include:

As with any project vehicle that has been standing, the buyer should assume that brakes, fuel system, hydraulic components, hoses, seals, electrical systems and running gear will require inspection, repair or replacement as necessary.

It may well start with new batteries and a quick engine service but that is just speculation on my part.

The camper interior remains complete and intact – it has a wood-burning stove, gas cooker, sink, a double bed and two bunk beds, drawers, storage and a foldable table that converts to an extra bed.

The Good Bits

Please do remember this is a 30-year-old project vehicle which has been standing for many years. We are ensuring we are being honest in our description so that there are no surprises for the buyer.

Terms of Sale

A rare opportunity to acquire a classic Mercedes camper project with huge potential. These old Mercedes commercial vehicles have a loyal following worldwide, and this would make an excellent restoration, overland expedition build or parts donor for another 609D project.
