A rare and beautifully preserved antique Eastern European folk art bracelet, dating to the late 19th / early 20th century, and crafted using hand-painted bone panels joined with sterling silver fittings.
This bracelet is composed of individually cut rectangular bone plaques, each decorated by hand with traditional folk imagery and symbolic motifs, including birds, florals, geometric rosettes, and a mother-and-child figure. The decoration is sealed beneath an aged natural varnish that has developed a warm, authentic patina over time.
The panels are connected with original sterling silver wire hinges and clasp, typical of rural folk jewellery of the period. The reverse shows natural bone grain, age staining, and hand-cut construction, confirming the bracelet’s authenticity and age.
The imagery across the bracelet forms a coherent symbolic program characteristic of Central–Eastern European (Carpathian / Slavic) folk art:
