Christine McGinnis Original Etching Tengmalm's Owl Signed 148/300 Framed 1983
Description
Original hand-pulled etching by American artist Christine McGinnis (1937–2019), titled Tengmalm's Owl. Pencil signed, titled, dated and numbered by the artist.
THE PRINT
This is a genuine original intaglio etching, not a photographic reproduction. The embossed plate mark is clearly visible pressed into the paper around the image — the mark of a true hand-pulled print. Below the plate mark, in the artist's own pencil, are the edition number 148/300 on the left, the title Tengmalm's Owl in the centre, and the copyright symbol with her signature and the date 83 on the right.
The subject is a Tengmalm's owl, also known as the boreal owl, rendered in the fine drypoint linework McGinnis was known for. The bird is shown perched and turned toward the viewer, with beautifully worked feather detail and those characteristic large dark eyes.
THE ARTIST
Christine McGinnis was an American printmaker who worked almost exclusively in bird and animal subjects, with owls her best known and most collected theme. Her etchings were published through Rodger LaPelle Galleries in Philadelphia. Her work is uncommon in Australia, so buying locally means no international postage or import charges on a fragile framed piece.
