Original WWII Japanese Army leather grip cover for a Shin Gunto military sword.

This removable field cover was designed to protect the tsuka and fittings during actual service. It is made of dark brown leather and measures approximately 11 inches in overall length.

The cover shows heavy authentic field use and age, including surface scuffs, finish loss, wrinkles, dryness, cracking, small cuts, and wear around the edges and tip. Despite this deterioration, the main structure remains intact and the cover retains its original overall form.

The green leather fastening cord is relatively clean compared with the cover and is believed to be a postwar replacement.

This listing is for the leather cover only. No sword or other fittings are included.

Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition. A scarce original field accessory for restoring or displaying a Japanese military sword.
