Vintage matchbook holder made for Hotel Hermitage in Nashville, Tennessee. This piece was produced by Hall China.
The Hotel Hermitage in Nashville, Tennessee, opened its doors in September 1910 after being commissioned by 250 local residents in 1908. Named after Andrew Jackson's estate, it was considered Nashville's first million-dollar hotel and is a significant example of Beaux-Arts architecture. The hotel played a pivotal role in American history as the headquarters for both pro- and anti-suffrage forces in 1920, when Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Over the years, the Hermitage has served as a social center for the city and has hosted numerous U.S. presidents, including William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson, and John F. Kennedy.
Good-minus condition. This is a well used piece. No chips or cracks. Most noticeable is the hotel logo shows heavy fading (see images) and there is some wear to the gold. Light-minus scuffing inside the bowl. The base shows shelf/use wear. Please see the pictures for more information and to help with your decision.
