Original 1928 first edition of Yeşil Gece (“The Green Night”) by important Turkish novelist Reşat Nuri Güntekin, author of Çalıkuşu. Published in Istanbul by Sühulet Kütüphanesi / Akşam Matbaası, this is the original Ottoman Turkish printing in Arabic script, issued shortly before Turkey’s alphabet reform. Library and antiquarian records identify the first edition as a 310-page publication from 1928.

The novel follows the idealistic teacher Şahin and explores education, religion, secular reform, and social change during the late Ottoman and early Republican periods.

Condition: Acceptable antiquarian condition. The book has been placed in a later green patterned hardcover binding, which shows staining, rubbing, edge wear, bumped corners, and losses at the spine ends. The original title page is heavily worn, torn, repaired with old tape, and has areas of paper loss. Several preliminary and rear leaves also show tape repairs, chipping, tears, and loss. Pages throughout are age-toned and somewhat brittle, with scattered spotting, stains, edge wear, and occasional chips or tears. The text remains generally clear and readable. Binding remains together, but the volume should be handled carefully.
