Georgian Cut Rock Crystal Fob Intaglio Ulysses Snake Greek Mythology Or Biblical

Deeply hand cut intaglio in gold moumt.

This is possibly Ulysses and the snake is the woman that fell in love with him. It could also be another Greek story of philoctetes and his encounter with the snake.

Ot perhaps it is a biblical reference. The snake doesn't look aggressive and the Victorians had some association of the snake with wisdom, Resurrection, eternity and healing.  The snake was popularised in Victorian times when Albert gave Victoria a snake ring which symbolized unending love fidelity and devotion.

If the man in the intaglio isn't Ulysses his dress suggests (ribbed Phrygian-style cap) possibly Moses or even a median nobleman.

The gold testers higher than 14 karat but it was negative on the 18 character. Considering that it is only Victorian I think it's most probably 15 current but I don't have a 15 carat but I am selling as 14 karat gold mount.

Total weight of the object is just over 15 and a half  grams

Price is static I'm sorry to say,  I've had to take into account the 18 and a half percent eBay cost of sales. All said I will only transact on the site for the purposes of my own safety, just to save you the message.
