Original WWII Japanese Army pocket-hanger type rank insignia for the tropical or summer uniform.

This type was designed to hang from the button of a uniform chest pocket rather than being sewn directly onto the uniform. It was commonly associated with tropical clothing used in the southern theaters.

The insignia displays the rank of Corporal and consists of an original red rank tab with a horizontal stripe and metal star, hand-sewn onto an olive-brown wool backing. A large safety pin is attached to the reverse for mounting.

This example shows clear evidence of actual period use. The wool backing has surface wear, fraying, small holes, and exposed stitching. The rank tab shows fading, soiling, and age-related wear. The metal star has oxidation and discoloration.

The safety pin is heavily rusted and should be handled carefully. Its operation has not been forced or tested due to its age and condition.

Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition and construction.

Approximate width: 2 inches / 5 cm

This listing is for the rank insignia only. No uniform or other equipment is included.

A scarce original Japanese Army tropical-uniform accessory with strong period character.
