Deep black and burgundy-red give this late 1950s Austico men’s tie a sharp Rockabilly character, with fine vertical ribbing, tonal woven bands and a small four-point decorative metal detail. Family provenance dates the tie to the late 1950s, when it belonged to my grandfather.
Made in Australia, it is constructed as a traditional self-tie necktie in Trevira man-made fibre blended with an unidentified natural fibre. The slender 4.5 cm blade, restrained colour palette and woven geometric detailing reflect the streamlined men’s fashions of the late 1950s and the emerging Rockabilly aesthetic.
The tie measures 130 cm long x 4.5 cm across the widest part of the blade (51.2 x 1.8 inches). It has previously been professionally dry cleaned and presents well for its age, with light age-related wear and some toning to the original Austico Trevira label. As it has been in storage since cleaning, another professional clean or refresh will be needed before use. Dry clean only.
