MIRIAM HASKELL 60'S SIGN AMETHYST GLASS BEADS DBL LINK GILT BRASS FESTOON CHOKER

For your consideration, Miriam Haskell festoon choker.    The necklace was hand crafted in the USA CIRCA 1960-70's.

NOTE: There is a matching pair of dangle earrings being sold in another auction and are shown in this auction with the necklace for easy comparison.

The necklace is designed with a row of 10mm amethyst purple poured glass beads and a double link gold brass rope chain.

Attached to the rope chain are  clusters of  small 8mm smooth round  amethyst purple poured glass beads along the chain where it rests on the front of the neckline.

The strand of beads and the chain are attached to a J hook and an extension chain of beads by gold gilt brass gold gilt brass connectors.

The J hook is made of brass and has no decoration and is Hallmark MIRIAM HASKELL on the underside.  These plain undecorated J hooks first appeared in late 60’s early 70’s and is indicative of the age of this necklace.

This original design is extraordinarily beautiful and hard to find.   I have not seen any similar to this being offered lately on this website.

DIMENSIONS & WEIGHT:

Necklace ~ 18”L end to end.  The dangles draping 1½” in front of the necklace and are graduated to ¾”L from front to side of the necklace.

The necklace lies comfortably around the base of neckline and the bead dangles rest on the chest/bust area in front and side.

The piece weighs 174 grams.

The construction and finish of the necklace  is sturdy and compact with intricate detail.  The best quality findings were used.  They were handmade by some of the best craftsmen in the USA with attention and meticulous  care paid to the finish product ensuing their construction is  consistent with similar Haskell pieces produced during this period.

CONDITION:

It is a family heirloom and was inherited.   The brass rope chain is slightly tarnished with a Russian Gold Hue, and is consistent with the nature of gold gilt brass.

The amethyst beads are all in good condition.  No damaged beads.    The links of the chain are in good condition  and  I have not noticed any gaps or spaces in the links and there doesn’t seem to be any missing beads.   The threading of the string of amethyst beads has no stretching or lose pieces of thread.

The necklace has been cleaned gently with a soft cloth on removing them from storage.  It has been in storage for years and may need cleaning than I have done.

NOTE:  This piece is another of my personal collection of vintage jewelry by Miriam Haskell which was inherited.    MOST VINTAGE PIECES ARE FRAGILE DUE TO AGE and should be handled gently and with care.  It should not be dropped as the beads are glass.
