This is a beautiful, nostalgic piece of Western Canadian regional history. 

This original mid-to-late 20th-century prairie folk art painting is signed M. COOKE in classic block lettering in the lower right corner.

The painting beautifully captures a quintessential scene from early Canadian prairie life: a traditional wooden pioneer wagon (reminiscent of the iconic Red River Cart) being pulled along a dirt trail by a heavy draft horse. The setting features a vast, vibrant green prairie landscape rolling toward distant hills or mountains under an expansive, cloudy blue sky. 

The brushwork has a wonderful texture and a bright, uplifting cooler palette.

The painting is in excellent vintage condition with vibrant colours and no paint loss.

Painted on a vintage 12x16 inch "Artist's Canvas Board" stamped on the reverse by Winsor & Newton (Made in Canada). The back of the board shows authentic vintage age/staining which does not affect the front artwork.

Housed in a premium, wide, light-toned wood gallery frame that complements the natural prairie colours perfectly. 

It comes ready to hang with a sawtooth hanger installed on the back.
