True Etruscan Majolica was produced by the Griffin, Smith and Hill pottery located in Phoenixville, PA during the years 1879 and 1892. Their line of Majolica has been reproduced many times over the years. True Etruscan from this firm will have a limited palette of colors used, one color, turquoise was never used. Also the bottom was either done in solid white, yellow/green sponged or brown/grey/teal mottled treatments. The company produced a number of popular patterns to include the maple leaf design. This pattern has attractive maple leaf twigs with multicolored leaves covering the surface; the footed pieces exhibiting the tree trunk partially covered with trailing ivy. This line can be found in different table wares including the ever popular cake stand. This popular design also marketed in several different color combinations. 

I have had several cake stands over the years, this fine example in organic earth tone hues has a wonderful contrast of the leaves against the beige background. The stand measures 9 1/2” diameter across the flat plate portion and stands 5 1/2” tall. In very good used condition with no chips, cracks, damage or repairs noted. I will mention for accuracy and pictured, a couple factory anomalies on the inside of the base which also reveals the impressed company logo. A firing line as well as a small excess of clay can be seen in these pictures. Neither one detracts from the beauty or value as these issues are unseen when on display.
