What This Poster Stamp Is All About: This Poster Stamp Was Issued In 1943 As A United States Navy Recruiting Cinderella To Promote Service In The Seabees, The Navy’s Construction Battalions, And Was Specifically Aimed At Construction Workers Between 17 And 50 Years Of Age. It Was Based On A Wartime Recruiting Poster Created By Nebraska-Born Artist John Falter And Was Intended To Appeal To Skilled Civilian Laborers By Presenting The Seabees As Men Who Could Both Build Military Infrastructure And Fight In Active Combat Service In The Pacific Theater.

The Design Shows Seabees In Steel Helmets Firing From Behind Sandbags, Including One Using An M1 Carbine And Another Using A Thompson Submachine Gun, While A Crane And Bulldozer Appear In The Background To Reinforce The Dual Role Of Construction And Combat. The Composition Combines Front-Line Action With Heavy Equipment And Building Activity To Emphasize That The Seabees Were Not Ordinary Infantry But Naval Construction Troops Trained To Work And Fight Under Wartime Conditions.
