This listing is for a Sophos XG 230 1U rackmount firewall appliance, removed from a working environment. The XG 230 is built on standard Intel x86 server-grade hardware with 8GB DDR4 RAM, 6 Gigabit copper ports, 2 Gigabit SFP fiber ports, and a FlexiPort expansion slot for additional connectivity modules.
This unit does not include an SSD/storage drive. Because Sophos's XG/XGS firmware and licensing are tied to the original storage media, this appliance will not boot into Sophos's proprietary OS out of the box. However, since the hardware underneath is a standard x86 platform, this makes it an excellent low-cost base for installing a free, open-source firewall/router operating system of your choice (e.g., pfSense, OPNsense, or a general-purpose Linux distribution) on a drive you supply. This is a popular and well-documented repurposing path for decommissioned Sophos/Fortinet/SonicWall-style appliances in the homelab and small business community.
