A 1974 Les Paul Custom White has arrived! When you hear "white Les Paul Custom," many people probably think of Randy Rhoads.
Randy can be seen playing a white Custom in videos and photos from that era. Especially during his Quiet Riot days before Ozzy Osbourne joined, there are almost exclusively records of him playing a white Custom.
This trademark white Custom was made in 1974, the same year as the one we have in stock. As its nickname "Black Beauty" suggests, the Les Paul Custom was primarily black, but other colors began to be produced from the 1970s onwards.
The white Custom appeared in 1974. Randy Rhoads acquired his first-year Custom.
In 1975, the neck wood changed from mahogany to maple, meaning that the white Custom with a mahogany neck had a short production run. Randy used this particular guitar throughout his life.
It's said to have been his most frequently used guitar, both in live performances and recordings. This is because this Custom was originally a gift from a bandmate.
As you can see, this guitar has had several parts replaced in a Randy Rhoads style. The tuners are Schaller M6, with side rigging and a "W.
Germany" engraving. The control knobs are gold barrel knobs.
The strap pins have been replaced with Schaller locking pins. The toggle switch washers are gold, and the control panel and switch panel on the back have been replaced with brass ones.
All of these details show respect for Randy. All control potentiometers have been replaced with those from around 1983-1985.
