This guitar features an Adirondack red spruce top, mahogany sides and back, a mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, a rectangular bridge with a long-slot saddle, hand-carved scalloped bracing, a 43.4mm nut width, and a 16-inch round shoulder with a 24.75-inch scale. When this model first appeared, it had a thick neck, but it gradually became thinner over time.
Even so, it still has a decent thickness, resulting in a solid grip and sound. While I can't say for sure, I suspect the fingerboard and bridge aren't just Indian rosewood, but Madagascar rosewood.
The sound is a punchy, loud, and powerful Gibson sound! It has a surprisingly powerful sound pressure that overwhelms others.
While recent regular Gibson guitars are also very well-made and sound great even when new, comparing them side-by-side reveals a completely different level of quality! The sound starts brightly and crisply, and the rough yet powerful tone cuts through with a character that suggests years of playing, producing a captivating sound that can only be found in this model.
The Adirondack spruce top and thick neck provide a solid, sustained tone, while the lacquer finish and advanced X-bracing contribute to excellent projection, all blending together to allow you to fully enjoy the powerful and attacking Gibson sound! The instrument's condition shows signs of age, including scratches, wear, and signs of use.
The body has only minor scratches here and there, and the paint is not significantly deteriorated, but the headstock paint shows considerable signs of age. There are also scratches that appear to have been caused by a string winder, and the headstock top has weather checking, lifting of the topcoat, and some chipping of the paint.
Additionally, there is a 5cm crack near the waist of the body on the 6th string side, which has been repaired with adhesive. The repair marks are somewhat noticeable as they haven't been overpainted, but they are securely glued, and reinforcing cleats have been installed inside the body, so there are no concerns about structural integrity.
There are numerous small dents and scratches on the body, so it's certainly not in pristine condition, but this kind of wear suits Gibson guitars, and I think it has a certain character to it. Also, it appears to have had a pickup installed in the past, as the end pin has been replaced with an oversized one.
The neck condition is good and mostly straight, and the current string height at the 12th fret is approximately 2.6mm on the 6th string side and 1.8mm on the 1st string side, making it very easy to play. There is still room for further adjustment of the string height on the saddle.
The frets appear to have been leveled once, and there is some wear on top of that, but even the most worn areas retain about 70-80% of their original height. It's unclear whether this is the original case, but a period-correct Gibson hard case is included.
