The SweetWater Guardian 0.2-micron microfilter (previously produced by MSR) is a popular, lightweight pump-style backcountry water filter. It effectively eliminates waterborne bacteria and protozoa like Giardia and Cryptosporidium. However, because of its 0.2-micron pore size, it is generally not certified to filter out viruses.

Here are the key specifications and details:

Pore Size: 0.2 microns (nominal).
Filter Media: Ceramic Plus Carbon, which is designed to reduce chemicals and remove unpleasant odors and tastes.
Filter Life: Approximately 750 liters depending on water quality.
Flow Rate: Roughly 1 liter per minute (takes about 90 seconds per liter).
Maintenance: It can be easily scrubbed clean in the field with a soft brush to restore the flow rate.
