A fabulous piece of Australian mid-century glamour, this circa 1960s gold-tone lipstick holder combines a cylindrical lipstick compartment with a cleverly integrated folding mirror.

The hinged oval section is decorated with beautifully moulded roses and leaves surrounding a contrasting silver-tone centre set with sparkling aurora-borealis rhinestones. When opened, the reverse reveals a circular mirror for lipstick touch-ups.

Matching examples found online in their original Jewelcrest presentation boxes confirm the maker and show that this was sold as a complete accessory in its own right. Jewelcrest also included design variations in coordinated vanity sets with matching powder compacts. Decorative centres included petit-point floral embroidery and rhinestone embellishment such as this example. Jewelcrest was an Australian line associated with jeweller and designer Donald Simpson.

It is in nice vintage condition, with minor wear marks consistent with age and previous use; the mirror, hinge, and rhinestone decoration are present and in good condition.
