This RARE 1967 NASA photographic map shows the Lunar Orbiter 3 high-resolution survey of candidate Apollo landing Site S-28 in the Flamsteed region of Oceanus Procellarum. A 5-degree grid, azimuth markings (52°, 44°, 42°), crater names (Flamsteed, Flamsteed D, Flamsteed G) and elevation figures are over-laid to help mission planners evaluate surface hazards. The print was pulled for internal use by the Apollo Landing Site Selection Board and is keyed to Lunar Aeronautical Charts LAC-74 & 75.
The Lunar Orbiter program photographed 99% of the Moon; Orbiter 3, launched in February 1967, returned images sharp enough to spot rocks only a few feet wide—crucial for the safe landing of Surveyor 1 and later Apollo crews. Original planning charts like this seldom left NASA archives, making surviving examples highly collectible—secure this piece of space-race history before another collector snaps it up.
